About This Spot

Stepping into Maguey Mexican Restaurant feels like arriving at a quietly cherished neighborhood gem, where the pace is unhurried and the atmosphere immediately invites you to relax. Nestled along Danville Boulevard in Alamo, this spot gently blends familiar warmth with a straightforward, approachable vibe—making it equally suited for a casual dinner out or a calm gathering with family and friends.

The softly humming energy here is carried by friendly faces who genuinely seem to care about your experience without ever rushing you. Whether you’re settling into the peaceful outdoor seating area or enjoying the cozy interior, there’s a sense of thoughtful simplicity that threads through the whole place.

Food at Maguey reflects this same honest approach. The flavors lean toward comfort — hearty, satisfying, and generous — where a classic wet burrito or a plate of tender carne asada feels like a reassuringly familiar embrace. Their homemade touches, like housemade horchata and fresh tortilla chips paired with tangy salsa, show subtle care that speaks to tradition rather than flash.

Part of the joy in dining here comes from the people who bring the experience to life. Attentive without being overbearing, the service creates space for genuine moments — conversations, shared smiles, and that quiet appreciation of a meal well served. It’s a place where small details, like a fresh salad or well-prepared fajitas, quietly enhance the overall feeling of comfort.

The steady rhythm of Maguey, combined with its inviting warmth and unpretentious flavors, makes it a steady presence — a place where regulars return and newcomers quickly understand why it holds a special corner in the local dining landscape.

My family and I enjoy coming here. The service is great and I like their quiet outdoor seating. Food could use a little more pizzazz per my preference; possibly more spices would suffice. But overall, it's a great restaurant and we'll be coming again. Thank you!

We had take-out. Their food is delicious, as always. Service is great, considering there are only 3 people serving the bar and restaurant. They are great people, be patient.

This has been my go-to Mexican restaurant for the past year. The veggie fajitas are wonderful. I also think they have the best chips and salsa of any restaurant that comes to mind. Servers are always very good and friendly. Prices are good. My meals with soda and tax usually come out to less than $20. Parking is never, ever a problem. The longest wait to get a table has been possibly 5 minutes, on a Friday night, but that's maybe been one or twice.

The best verde sauce I've ever had! Friendly staff, amazing food. Wish this was closer to home and not a lucky stop off the freeway!

Best Mexican food in the Walnut Creek area that I've been to. My favorites are the chimichanga, Chile relenos and fajitas.
